The BSE Sensex Market remained rangebound through the day before closing at 25960.03, down 119 points or 0.46 per cent. Nifty50, the 50-stock barometer, finished 33 points, or 0.41 per cent, lower at 7,896.25.
Weakness in world markets also caused selling pressure in Indian Market. European equities slipped into negative territory as investors fretted over revived weakness in global commodity markets. Asian markets closed mixed.
Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) turned net sellers to the tune of Rs 205.11 crore on Tuesday, as they got into the portfolio restructuring mode, information got on the National Securities depository showed.
As several as 197 stocks hit their 52-week highs amid lacklustre trading, with Nitco, Damodar Industries and SH Kelkar being the prominent ones.
